Sweetmeats & Underpinnings
The porcelain sculpture depicts a couple sitting atop a sideboard surrounded by cakes and tiered delicacies, setting the scene for something sweet to occur. Sweetmeats & Underpinnings serves up a playful mixture of patterns and saccharine colours to add to the spirit of the theme. The sculpture is created in collaboration between Chris Antemann and the Meissen manufactory.

Chris Antemann was invited by Meissen to collaborate with the historic porcelain manufacturer and its master artisans on a series of decadent and lustful limited-edition pieces, inspired by Meissen’s iconic tradition of intricately painted porcelain miniatures. In Sweetmeats & Underpinnings clues are hidden in the details; a little painting of Johann Joachim Kaendler’s The Kiss hints at the lady’s desires as she attempts to gain her partner’s attention with a twist of the torso and skirts lifted. The detail also serves as an homage to Meissen’s brilliant porcelain maker.
