Following a first degree in biology in Portland, US, Kartini Thomas came to Paris to study applied arts. She took up ceramics after a friend suggested she try it, and she has been hooked ever since. She took a leap of faith when she left her previous profession to focus solely on her art, motivated by her persistence and strong belief in the value of her work. After founding a collective studio bringing together over 20 creative residents in Toulouse, she has established a studio on the Island of Oleron where visitors can discover her uniquely recognisable style. Colour and structure are essential to her pieces, which are made to be interactive, with decorative attachments allowing the viewer to change the shape of the sculpture.

These small, black volcano vases by ceramicist Kartini Thomas spout bubbles made of spotted pink, blue and yellow blown glass. The glass bubbles are designed to both sit on top of the volcanos, and be turned on their sides and used as vases themselves.

Space Monkeys
These two sculptures are created by ceramicist Kartini Thomas. Each a blue cylinder with a rounded top and tiny facets, one is topped with a white, speckled, monkey-like head and the other with a flower. The sides of the cylinders have holes, allowing decorative elements to be attached, such as small balls and cups painted in white speckled glazes and blue to white gradients. A selection of decorative attachments is sent with each sculpture, allowing the owner to play around with it and change its shape.

Eden
These three cylindrical towers by Kartini Thomas are painted in gradients, white to yellow and white to pink, accentuating the tiny facets on their surfaces. Each cylinder comes with a selection of small decorative accessories – balls, cups and flowers – which the owner can attach to the cylinders to change the shape of the sculptures.
