Poetic sculptures in delicate leather

Marie Barthès studied synthetic materials at ENSAAMA Olivier de Serres in Paris, before becoming a sculptor for cinema, advertising, theatre and interior design. In 2009, she launched herself as an independent artisan and joined Les Ateliers d'Art de France. She worked with every type of material until she found leather – or rather, as she describes it, leather found her. She discovered it when she worked on a project for Guerlain years ago and has used it ever since. Her background has provided with her with traditional tools and expertise, which she has adapted to create sculptures that have a distinctive character and a delicacy that arises out of the details she crafts into the leather.

The front and back of this elegant mirror were fitted with pink leather. The hot foil stamping technique was used to add the design of gold lines. The inspiration for Marie’s designs is drawn from her continuous contemplation and observation of the world around her. She transcribes the rhythms, order and disorder of the perceived elements, particles and cells into her leather creations.

Chérie
This elegant mirror has a hinged cover that can be left open or closed to hide the mirror in a leather shell. Both parts are decorated with appliqués of leather cut into floral shapes and tiny gold beads, while parts have been embossed and others decorated with gold lines applied by hot-foil stamping.
