The kimono is hand-woven from tsumagi silk yarn dyed with natural vegetable dyes. The design of this kimono portrays a scene deep in verdant mountains with water birds splashing in a pond. Birds often make an appearance in Sonoko Sasaki’s work, as they represent to the artisan the idea of freedom, the ability to flee from the restraints of mundane life.
