Maqueson Pereira da Silva artisans gather raw materials such as fallen tree branches or bark from the Amazon rainforest. This reclaimed wood is then washed and soaked in water and minerals to naturally enhance its existing colour. Using the ancient marquetry technique, thin veneers of wood are painstakingly hand cut into shapes that are assembled into intricate designs to create the objects.
Brazilian designer Silvia Furmanovich first began creating her pieces in marquetry after a trip to Acre, Brazil’s westernmost state, where she encountered the skilled craftsmen who master the art of marquetry using native wood.
