The photograph provides a close-up of a silver vessel forged by the Japanese National Living Treasure Yukie Osumi, as seen at her atelier. Osumi is a master of metalwork, using the tankin technique. Osumi works predominantly with silver, which is forged into various shapes and textured with hammers, then chiselled on the surface according to her design. To finish the piece, the grooves created are filled with pieces of gold or zinc, a technique called "mesh inlay".
