The Maqueson Pereira da Silva workshop is an exceptional group of 20 artisans located in the heart of the Brazilian rainforest. The artisans are specialised in wood marquetry, the art of assembling thin veneers of wood in order to create intricate designs. The head artisan is Maqueson Pereira da Silva, a master marquetry artist. Born in the Brazilian rainforest, during his youth Maqueson was sent by priests to study the art of marquetry in Germany and later returned to his native country to set up his own atelier. His work evolved and offers a wholly innovative interpretation of the centuries-old technique, by using reclaimed veneers of coloured, indigenous woods.
