This modern interpretation of the Dogon stool takes its cues from the Dogon* spiritual leader's prestige seat, which recounts the Dogon cosmology of the sky and earth, but which is only supported at the two ends, leaving the centre open for the user's exploration and interpretation. The Dogon creation myth has great diversity, with a central theme of either the creator, a demigod of order, or his assistant descending to earth in an ark. Jomo's design carries over the traditional representation of heaven and earth but adds an open square space to resemble an ark.
