Exhibiting skilful cabinetmaking, the design of the Big John sideboard is based on a patchwork, whereby small pieces of wood are used in the same way as offcuts and scraps of wool and fabrics are used to make blankets. The patchwork technique is applied to the creation of the sideboard's drawers, cabinet doors, flaps and unpredictable openings. The frame and legs of the sideboard are crafted using wengè wood. The drawers and doors are veneered with different wood types: Makassar ebony, walnut, maple, cherry and padouk.
