The atelier is named after the late master embroiderer Pino Grasso. Some of the most marvellous outfits paraded on the red carpets of Hollywood were made by him, as were many of the embroideries embellishing the costumes worn in Baz Luhrmann’s Great Gatsby film. In 1958, he was studying Medicine at university when he discovered the art of embroidery through the father of a close friend who had an embroidery business, and who was looking for someone he could train. Pino Grasso embraced the opportunity with curiosity, soon he was visiting celebrated ateliers in Paris, such as Maison Lesage and Studio Mesrine and he was enraptured by the beauty of the creations he saw.

Today his daughter Raffaella continues his legacy, running the atelier with a team of skilled embroiderers. Their high quality craftsmanship has led to collaborations with the biggest Italian fashion houses from Gianni Versace, Valentino, Giorgio Armani, and Dolce&Gabbana to Bottega Veneta, Etro and Prada. Their beautiful handiwork embellishes many haute couture, as well as ready-to-wear pieces. The atelier has a reputation of excellence in the fashion world, not only for its precious embroidery skills, but also for its innovative design approach and use of materials, and contemporary vision.
