Urmas Puhkan likes to incorporate a variety of materials into his ceramic sculptures. These two red stoneware sculptures allude to both industrial metal structures and human movement. f

This work was made for Urmas Puhkan’s exhibition Õ, organised by the Estonian Ceramicists Association. The alien-like figures were made from stoneware and curved glass was used to create the lifelike eyes.

The inspiration for this red glazed stoneware sculpture came to Urmas on a rainy Sunday when listening to old vinyl LP’s, which is why it is called Rainy Sunday Vinyl Listener.

This stoneware sculpture, finished with porcelain, glaze and copper wiring, was created for, and presented during a group exhibition, NEOEKSPREPOST. The inspiration for the piece were comical thoughts on the concept of Punk Baroque, playing with positive surreality.

Since 2017, Urmas has experimented with the use of a 3-D clay pen. In 2018, he held a solo exhibition at the Estonian Applied Art Museum. The Nerves series, created with the 3-D clay pen, contemplates notions of what make us feel anxious.
