A sculptural approach

  • • Amélie’s work combines stylistic innovation and traditional savoir-faire
  • • She uses wax carving, which requires a lot of precision
  • • Her goal is to make jewellery with little or no welding

In the same way that each link on a necklace comes together to form a delicate chain, Amélie Viaene proceeded step-by-step to develop her impressive savoir-faire: early studies in applied arts, an evening course in gemology, and a year of intense work at Paris’s Haute Ecole de Joaillerie. “It was a revelation: that I loved it, that I had the manual skills to do this work, and that I could master the form,” she says. Amélie emphasises the handmade element of her work and the important labour of the gouache drawing and wax sculpting. “Most people don’t know how jewellery is created and enjoy learning how it works; understanding the intricacy and precision of the process.”

Mandala

The Mandala Ring is part of the Ideal series, a collection in which each stone is cut into a geometric figure. “At first sight of this pearl, I was mesmerised by the enigmatic effect of its faceted nacre. I adjusted it on a rotary axis so it turns on itself in a movement that perpetuates its magnetism,” Amélie says.

Kiku Rose

The Kiku collection was inspired by the Japanese word for chrysanthemum, the imperial symbol and sacred flower of Japan. Its plant, mineral and animal design echoes the roundness and transparency of the central glass bead created in exclusive collaboration with Michi Suzuki, a Japanese pearl artist. This pendant was fully handcrafted from pink gold, glass bead, raspberry red rubies and pink sapphires. This collection can be personalised with a selection of different bead, metals and stones.

Ideal Series

The Ideal collection is conceived around the geometric figure of the stone’s cut for which Amélie Viaene offers her ideal vision of a ring. The "ideal" forms develop architectural lines with a futuristic look and enveloping volumes. By following and extending the gem, the setting unites with it and increases its power, giving the jewel a powerful and dominant personality. This collection can be personalised with a selection of different metals and stones.

Rokia

A two fingers ring and also a pendant, this unisex piece can be worn in different ways. Its strong lines intrigue with their finesse and futuristic, graphic shapes. It is part of the Essential series, a collection of rings fashioned without gemstones, in a minimalist way

Baïkal

This ring is part of the One of a Kind collection, which is composed of unique pieces and small series. Inspired by the sublime tourmaline with which it is set, the ring is a tribute to Siberia's freshwater Lake Baïkal, whose water remains clear despite its vast depth.
