This cylindrical sculpted box combines ivory shagreen and brown rosewood. A number of minutely carved bees serve as ingenuous handles to hidden draws. Two sculpted friezes embellish this delicate piece around its base and upper part.

Master of materials

Growing up in Austria, Ludwig Vogelgesang always had a passion for manual work, which led to an interest in restoration. Discussing the idea with his parents, his father told him that if he wanted to do something he had to do it where it was done best, so Ludwig took his advice and headed to Paris, despite not speaking a word of French. He arrived with a list of addresses where he could ask for training. The last address on his list accepted him and he began to train in the restoration of 18th century French furniture. “That gave me the base and the traditional knowledge from which to create original pieces,” he says. Today, Ludwig both makes original creations and restores old pieces.

Meuble à Bijoux Slender
This small trapezoidal piece of furniture set on slender legs is evocative of designs of the 1920s and 30s. A sober and refined jewellery box, it is covered in green and grey shagreen and ebony marquetry, forming a concentric shape.

Spootnik Lamp
This ceiling lamp is made of delicate black mica blades and is englobed by two finely carved Mozambique ebony domes. Suspended and in free motion, the mica blades subtly reflect mirrored light.

La Vigne
White parchment embroidered with gold nuggets accentuates the black and honey-colour tones of this ebony box, which was conceived to protect a bottle of Martell Cognac. Maison Martel commissioned this unique piece from the artisans of the Grands Ateliers de France.
