Rose in Kang Xi Vase

The sculpture of a ceramic rose in a vase is created from 18th-century Chinese porcelain fragments restored into a contemporary piece. The artwork is part of Bouke de Vries’s Rose series, which reflects on the themes of vanitas still lifes. The rose petals made from ceramic fragments are initially born out of clay and eventually will return to clay to start perhaps yet another cycle.
