The sculpture of Guan Yin, a goddess of mercy and compassion, is surrounded by a cloud of 17th-century Chinese porcelain fragments. The figure of Guan Yin is a reoccurring thread throughout Bouke de Vries’s work. Bouke shows compassion towards discarded broken ceramics and instils them with new value, with the image of the goddess of compassion standing at the centre of this.
