Vilnius Pottery Guild founded in 2003, is a pottery centre located in Užupis where there are many shops and artists’ workshops. The potters who work here permanently love pottery fanatically in all its forms. They mould and throw earthenware from various types of clay. They also conduct research and reconstructions of archaeological furnaces and recreate moulds of ancient Lithuanian ceramics. A very important area of their activity is tile making: the craftspeople at the potter’s guild restore Gothic and Renaissance tiles based on the historical pieces that reached us.
Not only can you see masters at work but also get acquainted with the first moulded ceramics in Lithuania, Vilnius medieval household ceramics such as pots, pans, stew pots and tiles in the adjacent museum. Here you can see the entire retrospective of tiles found in Lithuania from 15th century Gothic tiles to Renaissance tiles, to tiles made in the 19th century classicism and the beginning of the 20th century. In Vilnius potters’ atelier, history merges with the present.
