This workshop dedicated to the Japanese bookbinding craft is run by Stefania Giannici, owner, designer and artisan of the Venetian one-woman business Paperoowl, a paper studio and shop where she creates jewellery, home design objects, boxes, notebooks, toys, origami, mobiles, custom pieces and art miniatures. Each participant will handcraft two notebooks using two different Japanese binding techniques Stefania will illustrate and choosing among a wide selection of paper and threads she has collected, with a special attention to the Japanese production. Creativity will be stimulated by the inspiring space full of paper artworks.
The delicate strength of paper, when handled by the right handsStefania Giannici is the owner, designer and artisan of the Venetian one-woman business Paperoowl, a paper studio and shop where she creates jewellery, home design objects, boxes, notebooks, toys, origami, mobiles, custom pieces, art miniatures and even some Venice landscapes “in a box”: everything out of paper. The space is a hymn to paper, a surprisingly eclectic and constantly transforming material – just like Stefania. She handmakes original articles, renowned for being enchanting and resistant at the same time, starting from the selection of the paper, among a wide and precious variety from all over the world. Stefania is a self-taught paper artist and her creative approach is experimental: never afraid of mistakes, on the contrary she thinks they’re the most challenging and fascinating part of the process and that at the end paper tells her what to do.
