The vase is part of Marcin’s Perishable series that reflects on the culture of consumption and waste. The ephemeral quality of the sculptures is achieved through the material from which they are made – flowers, salvaged from London’s flower market, mixed with organic binders. Perishable vases deform in sunlight and are negatively affected by water. The speed of deterioration depends on the ambient environment. Just like objects of everyday use, designed with planned obsolescence, these sculptures also have a limited lifespan dictated by the natural processes that overtake them, and, eventually, blend into the natural environment from which they came.
