Jean Charles Nicolas Brachard

The son of Nicolas Brachard, a modeller at the Manufacture de Sèvres, Jean Charles Nicolas Brachard himself worked at the company from 1782 to 1824 and originated L'Égyptien, a porcelain figure carrying a blue and gold fruit bowl (1806) on his head. This piece is part of the Egyptian service, one of the largest table sets made in Sèvres at that time. The service is the result of a collaboration between Dominique Vivant-Denon, director of the Napoleon Museum and author of the Voyage in Lower and Upper Egypt during the campaigns of General Bonaparte (1802), and Alexandre Brongniart, director of Sèvres from 1800 to 1847.
