Ilé Ilà by Tosin Oshinowo

Furniture making

Ilé Ilà is a lifestyle furniture line designed and handmade in Lagos, Nigeria. Meaning "House of Lines" in Nigeria’s Yoruba language, Ilé Ilà was started by Tosin Oshinowo in 2017 to celebrate her Yoruba culture. Through Ilé Ilà, Tosin explores her interest in the functionality of chairs, placing them in a Nigerian-African context. The furniture collections comprise armchairs characterised by minimal wooden frame lines upholstered with bright explosions of colour courtesy of the traditionally woven and dyed textiles popular across West Africa. Since its inception, Ilé ilà has worked with the same community of master carpenters, textile producers and upholsterers.
