Danton's Chair was originally designed by Robert Wilson and appeared on the stage of Wilson’s Danton's Death. Wilson’s version of Georg Büchner's trilogy premiered on October 27, 1992 at Houston Texas' Alley Theatre. The high gloss, piano-lacquered Danton’s Chair was created in a very limited edition of three for public exhibition.
