Campana Brothers

The Campana Brothers design studio was formed in 1984 by Fernando and Humberto Campana in São Paulo, Brazil. Humberto studied law and Fernando architecture, but they decided to work together, experimenting in design. The two brothers teamed up to create furniture from “ordinary” materials such as scrap materials, waste products and paper. This creative process of rendering and transforming poor or undesirable materials into sought-after furniture and installations is central to the studio’s philosophy. The brothers pay tribute to their Latin American origins through the rich colour palette of their work, the movement as well as the creative chaos. While the studio first concentrated on furniture design, it has over recent years expanded its activity to areas such as scenography, fashion and landscaping. In 1998 they became the first Brazilian artists to have their work exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
