Cartier Paris

As Cartier entered the 20th century, the Japanese aesthetics’ essential design appeared as a key inspiration. Louis Cartier (1875 – 1942) and his designers were indeed enthralled by its mastery of the arts of katagami (stencil technique) and calligraphy, which highlight geometrical, even repetitive designs. The sleek lines developed notably on woodblock prints and paintings encouraged the Maison in its quest for a stylised aesthetic and led to the creation of very modern pieces.
