Restoring rare instruments

  • • Riccardo specialises in restoring Italian instruments
  • • His choice of wood defines the sound of his instruments
  • • His craft is influenced by the Veneto region

Born in Venice, Riccardo Guaraldi studied at the Civica Scuola di Liuteria (School of Lutherie) in Milan, before going on to work with various master artisans. While specialising in the restoration of rare Italian instruments from the 18th century, he also creates modern instruments. Appreciated by many artists, Riccardo’s violins are the result of interpreting the legacy of the great masters of the tradition and the stylistic features of the Venetian school. The woods he predominantly uses are Picea Abies and Acer heldreichii, both of which are renowned for their acoustic qualities. His instruments are entirely handmade, using the classical Italian techniques, enriched by technology and recent research.
