Paolo: It is central. We carry on the great sartorial tradition of Barbagia: the cutting of the fabric without using paper patterns, the basting, the finishing touches. Also, when our client Francesco Cossiga, a Sardinian politician, became President of the Italian Republic, our work had great visibility all over the world.

Francesco: We do bespoke tailoring and we welcome customer requests. We keep ourselves up-to-date on trends, trying to marry novelty with tradition. We have introduced exclusive garments such as velvet capes and shawls, and we also use printed and cool wool fabrics, non-traditional combinations and colours.

Paolo : At the beginning of my career, the famous artist Costantino Nivola, born in Orani, came to me for a suit, offering to pay with one of his works. I was only 19, I did not know him. I was not happy, but luckily I accepted. In the dedication, Nivola wrote that he gave me his art in exchange for mine.

Francesco: Unfortunately yes, it is definitely an endangered craft, like all crafts in our region. It is very costly for craftspeople to hire an apprentice these years. State intervention would be necessary to support apprentices and the masters who train them. Young people interested in this job do exist.
