Unique bronze fitting contains a small LED casting light into the hollow belly of the orb, illuminating the beautiful conical texture. The surface of the crystal is smooth and polished so that the viewer looks through the glass to the inner texture.

Sculptural luminescence

Max Jacquard’s father was an architect and design has always been a big influence since his childhood. But after a brief encounter with furniture design, he soon realised that it was far too restrictive and too much based in creativity at the drawing board and so he discovered the freedom of working with glass and joined the Ceramics and Glass department at Buckinghamshire New University, in High Wycombe. What particularly attracted him to glass was the alchemic process of glass transformation by heat in the kiln and the possibility of exploring materials and being creative by actually making. Inspired by the natural world where he lives, in many of his pieces the moulds and textures are taken directly from natural forms and surfaces close to his studio, in the Kent countryside. His work can be seen at the V&A in London, the Shanghai Glass Museum and MAVA in Alcorcon, Madrid.

Semazen Sculpture
Cast in a range of different colours with bronze mounts and a natural stonebase, each Semazen is a unique exploration of the forms of sound waves captured in optical crystal. Here the pieces are shown in clear crystal,turquoise, pink and moss green. The surface is polished so that the viewer looks through the glass into the inner texture.

Semazen Vessels
The Semazen vessels are a part of a series of core cast works inspired by the spinning forms of the Sufi Dervishes and the oscillations of AM radio waves.The interior of each vessel is a unique series of deep rings while the exterior is a brightly polished surface which allows the viewer to look through the glass to the ghostly conical form.
