This bracelet has been handcrafted from recycled epaulettes, Japanese silk, Italian silk, gold wire and copper mesh. Lucia Massei uses the various metals to create a harmonious interplay of textures as well as melding colours.

Contemporary jewellery as conceptual art

Trained as a goldsmith, Lucia Massei graduated in Painting and Visual Arts at the Fine Arts Academy in Florence, where she developed a love for restoration, archaeology and ancient objects. With such an artistic background, she began to work as a designer of jewellery and fashion accessories, later opening her studio as a jewellery maker in Florence. She is co-founder, director and teacher at Alchimia Contemporary Jewellery School. Lucia’s experimental research comes out of her idea of jewellery, conceived as a Fine Art. Her work emerges from a vision and a concept, with no boundaries between art and craft. She also uses non-precious and recycled materials: “It’s the project that makes a jewel valuable.”

Mysticos
The chain of this necklace is made from ancient glass rosary beads and the pendant from a combination of rose coral, shibuichi (a Japanese alloy made by silver and copper), yellow gold, ancient epaulettes. The necklace recreates a landscape with a tree at its foreground, created with the coral.

This bracelet is made by shaping a copper and titanium mesh around a wrist, that were then electro-formed, coloured and gold-plated with fine yellow gold.
