A collection of 300 patterns designed by the artist over the last 30 years, handprinted on Belgian linen and paper. Characterised by subtle details, the patterns are geometrical, all made out of lines and circles. This archive was made to bring into the future the sensuous qualities of the design both as inspiration and an invitation to reflect.

A universe of textiles

Lisbet Friis is considered among the best textile printer in the use of colour schemes and weaving techniques in Denmark. Her passion literally exploded the day she saw the work of one of her mother’s students. "My mother worked with textiles as well as with ceramic" she recalls. "Once one of her students showed me a little handprinted fabric sample: a red dot on a green background. In that moment I knew that I wanted to work with textiles." She was trained at the Danish Design School, and learned the craft from two important masters: first a block-printing master, and then from Joy Boutrup, a textile chemist, who taught her all about colours, printing methods, materials and techniques. Lisbet’s commissioned hand printed textiles include specific sites like the Royal Yacht ‘Dannebrog’ for her Majesty Queen Margrethe of Denmark and the Ethnographic Collection of the National Museum of Denmark in collaboration with architect Merete Ahnfeldt Mollerup.

Daybed in Flower Power pattern
This daybed has a handprinted mattress in linen, with green leather edges and buttons. The daybed, part of the series Pattern Furniture, is made in collaboration with architect Uffe Black. The pattern is hand printed on Belgian linen in two layers with two different black colours to create an optical visual effect.

Williamsburg check
A one-off, hand printed piece of linen inspired by the colours of Williamsburg. It is the first in a collection of large checks, inspired by the streets in different areas of New York. The piece is a large unique check pattern, the material is a very heavy Belgian linen, printed with reactive dyes and discharge.

Stripe collection
Stripe collection was inspired by a box of military medals found at a flea market in London. Lisbet Friis developed the colours and patterns in her own workshop in Raadvad, then the collection was hand printed in Sweden on Belgian linen in limited editions and about 20 different colour combinations.
