Final Boss is Juho Könkkölä’s second original origami creation. It focuses on the asymmetrical aspect of the design and creating facial features for the character. Along with Outlaw, these two pieces laid out the groundwork for Juho’s complex origami design process and were the starting point for many later creations. This is a refolded version of the original figure.

Inspired by English folklore tales, Herne the Hunter was an experimental work intended to push the limits of origami, to fold complex structures and shapes with a new and larger paper size. The bow, arrows, quiver, and all the other details are folded from the same uncut sheet of paper. The design process took several months, and it was later folded during an art residency.

Näkki is part of the Finnish Character series inspired by the Finnish version of the mythological creature, Neck. The pose was used to convey the lurking characteristic of the creature.

Outlaw was Juho Könkkölä’s first original origami creation, sparking his interest in exploring the design process. With little to no understanding, Juho experimented by folding a piece of paper and came up with a knight-like character. He did not know how to fold a face, so folded a hood instead to portray the mysteriousness of the character. This is a refolded version of the original figure.

Samurai Warrior pushed Juho Könkkölä’s paper art style into a new direction, creating increasingly three-dimensional forms and intricate details. The initial idea was to create another warrior, but the final piece reminded him of a Japanese samurai. The first iteration of this character was folded and designed while travelling in a train through the country.
