Best in glass

  • • Jonathan was awarded best apprentice in France
  • • His main inspiration is the material itself
  • • His father had a stained-glass workshop

From very early on, Jonathan Ausseresse was introduced to glassmaking and firing techniques in his father’s glass workshop. To further his knowledge in design, architecture and decorative arts, he followed a BA in applied arts, before entering the French National Glass School where he obtained the title of best apprentice in France. A subsequent Diplôme des Métiers d’Art in glass and crystal art allowed him to work at large crystal manufacturers like Lalique alongside master Florian Rosier. Jonathan specialises in enamelling by dusting, a technique consisting in colouring cooked glass sheets by sprinkling them with enamel. Considered one of France’s rising glass designers, his signature feather-like glass sculptures invite contemplation and meditation.

Fluence n°31.2

Piece n°31.2 from the Fluence collection is an oval sculpture of blue glass, set on a base of gray volcanic rock. The glass, predominant part of the work, is composed of a set of vertical lines which draw a pattern that could be related to an open book, from right to left. The technique used to make this work is enamelling and fused glass.

Fluence n°20.1

Piece n°20.1 from the Fluence collection is an oval sculpture of gray glass, set on a base of gray volcanic rock. The glass could evoke a gray flame. There is an impression of astonishing volume, but the glass is just a few centimetres thick. This is due to the technique used for to make this work: enamelling and fused glass.
