Exotic fusion embroidery

  • • Jacky is a contemporary embroiderer and digital artisan
  • • She works on creative projects for interiors, fashion, and artist collaborations
  • • Travelling and hybrid cultures of the postcolonial world are prime sources of inspiration for her

When you look at the vivid embroidery of Jacky Puzey it is the idea of fusion that strikes out. Working with fusion of traditional and digital, design and art, historical and contemporary, her works embody these intersections by playing with colours, patterns and themes freely to produce spectacular visual results. Jacky is a versatile artisan. She specialises in drawing, digital embroidery, textile art pieces, couture furniture, and bespoke embroidery commissions on a large scale. Her creative approach lies in merging innovation and tradition through research and experimentation, and refining her craft skills for each of her creative pieces. Jacky holds a PhD in Fashion, Textiles, and Visual Culture from Bath Spa University and was awarded the Hand and Lock Prize for Embroidery in 2015.

Urban Leopards Neon Cities

This artwork is comprised of four panels of printed embroidered silk wallpaper. Butterflies and leopards weave through shadowy neon-lit urban gardens, inspired by the ‘city ghosts’, the leopards of Mumbai.

Squirrel and Peacock Footstool

The Squirrel and Peacock Footstool is made from custom designed velvet print, embroidery, silk, bespoke frame and traditional upholstery. The blues and greens of the velvet and of the embroidered peacock contrast with the vibrant red squirrel and pomegranates.

Dandy Parakeets Cocktail Chair

This luxurious velvet cocktail chair is richly embroidered with feathered green parakeets and clematis flowers. The print is custom designed for this couture piece, inspired by 19th-century landscape painting, ‘wild’ cities and urban dandy street cultures.

The Embroidered Hare Screen

The Hare Screen combines antique Japanese obi silk with a semi-sheer blue organdie, embroidered with a richly textured hare, fluttering laser cut flowers and dark textured foliage. The hare drinks from a forgotten pond in a city park as the sun sets.
