The atelier capable of turning a garbage bag into a Haute Couture gown - designed by Galliano for Dior in 2006 - does exist. The oldest embroidery atelier in Paris, Hurel was founded in 1879 and it is run today by the fifth and sixth generations of the Hurel family: Martin and his two nephews, Baptiste and Paul de Bermingham. The atelier has been, for decades, the partner of choice for the most prestigious fashion houses, including Chanel, Dior, Armani and Valentino.

Intricate techniques are mastered by the talented craftswomen, who give birth to exceptionally delicate hand embroideries. They use both the Lunéville hook and needle to attach all sorts of materials onto luxury fabrics as well as onto more surprising bases, like plastic or paper. The heritage of the company lives in their rare and precious 30,000 piece archive as well as in the exceptional skills of the teams. The oldest of them has been part of the company for more than 36 years and the youngest is merely 22 years old.
