With the first Herend workshop founded in Hungary in 1826, the porcelain manufacturer has a long and rich history in Central Europe. Taking its name from the town in which it was born, Herend is a national treasure that has come to be nicknamed “white gold”. Herend grew in prestige thanks to the popularity of its porcelain pieces among the Hungarian and Austrian aristocracy, and was also famously purchased by Queen Victoria for Windsor Castle, who opted for a design featuring butterflies and purple peonies.

With thousands of unique motifs to its name, many of its classics are still in production today. Since its founding, the brand has become synonymous with luxury, elegance and quality. Celebrated for its one-of-a-kind, world-famous designs, Herend stores have opened up as far away as Asia and the Middle East. While the manufacturer's workshop itself is not open to the public, it sits in the Porcelanium Visitor Centre, where a scaled-down version – the Minimanufactory – is open to the public.
