This wheel thrown ceramic bowl, handcrafted from brown clay, is finished with a hand scratched white decor. The glaze is Eszter Fehér’s own recipe. She fired the bowl at 1220 degrees celsius in an electric kiln.

Material touch

At 15, Eszter Fehér was looking for an institution where she could study a profession that involved using her hands. Her respect and love for ceramics developed quickly, and after graduating from the Secondary School of Arts in Pécs (south Hungary), she studied at the Moholy-Nagy University of Arts in Budapest and later in Basel, at the Institut Integrative Gestaltung – Masterstudio der Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst FHNW (MA). After moving back to Hungary, she started working in her grandmother's garage on a foot-operated wheel. Her work started to get recognised by restaurants around Lake Balaton, and continues to be more in demand each year. As a mother to a little boy, she finds time for creativity in the quieter moments and is now working on developing her own custom glazes for electric kilns.

Porcelain plates
These hand built white porcelain plates are decorated with cobalt-oxide. Eszter Fehér fired the plates at 1260 degrees celsius in an electric kiln. The shapes are irregular, highlighting their handcrafted character.

Ceramic ship plates
The ship shape of these hand built ceramic plates was inspired by the customer who commissioned them. Eszter Fehér fired the earthenware plates at 1290 degrees celsius in a wood fired kiln. This is a special, time-consuming, beautiful firing technique. Eszter used green celadon and gudrun glaze to decorate the plates.

Ceramic plate with dots
This ceramic plate, hand built from earthenware clay, was fired at 1290 degree celsius in a wood fired kiln. The playful dots highlight the uniqueness of the firing technique. Eszter Fehér used blue celadon glaze to decorate the plate.
