Venetian glare

  • • Donatella and Livio run Gioielli Donati
  • • Their jewellery pieces transform into different forms
  • • They are both inspired by the Venetian tradition of goldsmithing

Donatella Pozzobon and Livio Busato, the goldsmiths behind Gioielli Donati, like nothing more than to create jewellery that can transform into different beautiful and wearable forms. Donatella’s infatuation with goldsmithing started at a young age. After middle school her teachers suggested that she attend an artistic and creative school and led her to enroll in the goldsmith course at Venice’s Istituto d’arte. She then perfected her skills at Centro Studi Superiori d’Arte Orafa Gori e Zucchi in Arezzo, Tuscany, where she won a scholarship. Livio, on the other hand, discovered his passion for the craft after meeting Donatella and becoming fascinated by the creative works of the workshop that she founded in 1974 in Montebelluna, in the heart of the Veneto region.

Crigoea

Crigoea is a ring of great craftsmanship complexity in which Donatella's artistry finds free rein and harmony. It is a tribute to childhood memories. The cage (crigoea) contains four eggs, symbolizing the four sisters (being daughters of Bruno Del Gal, owner of the Al Gallo hotel, they called them "the hens"), and thanks to a roto-translating mechanical system, it can be opened to let them out.

Planetario

The ring resembles the dome of an astronomical observatory. The hemisphere is perforated by hand with a geometric design, allowing a glimpse of the colour of the stones contained inside. Thanks to a roto-translational mechanical system, the "dome" can be opened, allowing the wearer to change the stones inside it with others of a different colour.

Doge

Doge is a ring inspired by the colours of Venice and its Byzantine mosaics. The ruby symbolizes the power of the Doge and the gold the wealth of the heyday of the Serenissima. Made to be versatile, the double stem opens, thanks to a snap mechanism. Combined with a leather or velvet strap, the ring turns into a bracelet or a choker necklace.

Gondola rosa

Gondola is inspired by a pair of glass candlesticks made in the 40s by Carlo Scarpa for Venini. The jewel consists of three parts: a fine ring with a stone, a pocket and a square element. The three pieces together make up the ring in the photo. Alternatively, the upper part can be released from the stem and become a pendant or, with the addition of a button, a bracelet, while the ring with the stone could be a very fine engagement ring.
