Learning by experimenting

  • • Clay has been Anastasia's preoccupation since childhood
  • • Her first studio was her kitchen table, in 2015
  • • The first object she made was a sleeping giraffe

Anastasia Dulenko has loved sculpting since she was a child. "When I was nine, I spent summer at my grandma’s house. I found red clay there, I dug a whole lot of it and made 100 unique figures.” Years later, Anastasia remembered her love for clay and decided to do something about it. Her hard work paid off: now she has a studio, a full-fledged online store and a showroom. Anastasia’s main technique is slip casting. She works with semi-porcelain (ironstone), which she likes because of the density of the shard and the milky colour that it gets after firing. She is very meticulous in every step of the process and does everything herself: from mixing to firing. Sometimes she also uses hand-building methods like pushing out the slabs.

Arches and Bubble vases

The vases from the Nerikomi series have asymmetric, bionic shape. The main part of each vase is white adorned with “appliqués”. Those coloured patches are made in Nerikomi technique: cobalt blue, bright orange, and calm pink pieces of clay were put together in one multi-layered mix.

Medusa, Patisson and Cylinder vases

These products showcase Anastasia’s love for combining different colours and textures together. The colours were inspired by eggs (warm colour of a matt egg yolk and strict white egg white). The vases are made by slip casting, however their edges are formed by hand.

Arches vases

These vases have natural, bionic shape and they look like caramel candies. Both were made using slip casting technique. The colour is bronze and brown. However the form here dominates over the colour.

The Memphis collection

This collection is inspired by patterns of the Memphis style, it comprises a Zigzag bowl, a variety of Memphis ceramic candlesticks and a Lines bowl. Each object is hand-painted with black lines and dots. Each product is constructed of several geometrical figures which are made combining slip casting and hand-building techniques.

Barrel vase

This is a white vase with random coloured spots and strokes. The pattern is very easy and spontaneous. The form is simple and stable – nothing extra.
