A natural approach

  • • Ana Isabel's textiles combine different colours and textures
  • • Her technique is based on the low-warp loom
  • • Her work is influenced by her geographical environment

Ana Isabel Fonseca Miguel's first experience of textiles was during her childhood when she learned the techniques of cutting, sewing, knitting and crochet. A few years ago she started her professional practice with the basic technique of the low-warp loom, thanks to her mentor, Ana Castro Borja. Since then, she has been practically self-taught. Her workshop, which opened in 2020, is recognised by the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism. Her work is influenced not only by the region she lives in but also by the cultural legacy that accompanies her. For her, a quality artisanal product is an alternative to an industrial product and the key to success is to enjoy both the design and the weaving.

Huckaback

This large scarf is hand-woven on a low heddle loom using natural threads. The intention of the design is to create a warm and enveloping piece based on an elegant combination of fabric structure and colours. A summer storm at dusk has suggested this chromatic choice.

Crammed and space

This large scarf is handwoven on a low heddle loom using natural threads. The objective of this design was to create a piece with a light texture in the touch and in colour, to be used in summer. The composition recalls the wavy effect of the sea mixed with the sand.

Autumnal scarf

The design of this scarf reflects the colours of autumn in Ana Isabel Fonseca Miguel’s region. It is this mixture of greens, reds and ochre and the combination of wool and linen that represent the intermediate season between summer and winter.

Wondering vine

This large shawl is designed to be both light and heavy, combining truly classic fabric structures and the use of luxurious materials such as silk with simpler materials such as linen and cotton. The result is a youthful and contemporary piece which plays with colours and asymmetries.
