Furniture with personality

  • • Jordi is influenced by Barcelona architect Antoni Gaudí
  • • He carries out in-depth research in ergonomics to create his designs
  • • His pieces investigate the relationship between aesthetics and emotion

Jordi grew up in Cordoba, Argentina, where he and his brother had a cabinetmaking and carpentry workshop. On a trip to Spain he met his future wife and a year later decided to settle on the Spanish island of Majorca. Alongside his work as a carpenter, Jordi worked for several years with a local NGO which took him to Guatemala, where he encountered Mayan culture. A Mayan priest introduced him to the Mayan book of destiny, a synchronisation of 30 Mayan calendars, which analyses people’s personalities and emotions based on their date of birth. When possible, Jordi draws on these ideas in his work, strengthening his relationship with the people for whom he is creating original furniture.

Cama árbol

Jordi designed this bed for a three-year-old boy, wanting to convey a sense of relaxation that is similar to the one we might feel when resting or sleeping under a tree. The carving at the foot of the bed evokes the pleasure of walking through fallen autumn leaves. Originally the bed had rails, but they were removed for it to be used by an adult.

Cadibra II

Two traditional chair designs found in Mallorca have been combined for this model. Jordi has incorporated ergonomic measurements for a healthy work posture, and a new organic aesthetic. The seat was woven following a traditional technique using natural palm fibre typical of the island, while the yellow pine was recuperated from an 18th-century building that was being demolished.

Cajonera Búger

All curves, this chest of drawers was based on anthroposophical design in which neither the room nor the furniture in it has any straight lines or sharp corners. The fluid, organic lines of the piece evoke the gentle landscapes of Mallorca, conveying a sense of harmony and tranquillity.
