A pop of colour from Venice

  • • Alessandra uses Murano glass to create jewellery
  • • She treats glass fragments as thought they were precious stones
  • • Her handmade pieces are one-of-a-kind

Trained with a rigorous four-year apprenticeship at the renowned Hemmerle goldsmithing company, Alessandra Piazza is a jewellery maker based in Munich. Thanks to her solid knowledge of traditional goldsmithing techniques, Alessandra has been able to dedicate herself to the creation of unique handmade pieces characterised by a very original use of Murano glass. Her particular appeal is using leftover glass that she collects in Venice, as though they were precious stones. She combines them with gold and other metals, like silver, copper, bronze and iron. Some of these glass fragments can also be very ancient, dating back as far as the 16th or 17th century. The union of technical mastery, and her original, modern touch has led Alessandra to explore colour and materials in her creations.

Collana No. 4

This is a yellow gold necklace with a handmade pendant made of Giallo Limone Murano glass, in a shape reminiscent of a perfume bottle. This drop-shape has fine, handmade grooves, which have been filed, like the pendant itself, so that the yellow colour of the glass appears in different facets, harmonising with the gold eyelet and chain.

Collana No. 5

This gold necklace sports a handmade pendant made of Blu Scuro Murano glass, yellow gold and copper. The faceted Murano pendant is approximately square cut with nine facets, aligned and filed by hand. It is then enclosed in a square setting of dyed copper and gold.

Gemelli No. 2

These cufflinks are made of Ambra Murano glass, red gold and copper. The shape is reminiscent of a pyramid, with curved sides. Each one is held by a red gold setting, connected to a red-brown burnt copper clasp, whose ends are reminiscent of pyramids as well.

Orecchini No. 11

This earrings are made of Murano glass in the shades Giallo Limone, Pesca, Oliva, and are mounted on yellow gold. The three matching Murano glass bells interlock and are fixed by a gold wire. Small goldplates are set between them to prevent rubbing.

Anello No. 17

This ring is made of Rosso Scuro Murano glass and sterling silver. The glass was carved out of one solid piece of Murano glass. The ring was conically drilled and milled out in the middle to make room for the silver inlay. The shape of the ring is faceted cut, and worked by hand.
