Capturing a sense of movement

Simon Zsolt József was around 12 years old when he met the only potter in his hometown, and this fortuitous meeting inspired him to dedicate himself to ceramics. He studied porcelain painting at Fischer Mor Porcelain Industrial Vocational School in Herend, and upon graduating he travelled around the world. During this time, he drew a lot, experimenting and developing a style true to himself and his passion for movement. Upon returning to Hungary, he started to adapt this drawing style to his work as a porcelain maker and painter. Over the years, he has complemented his previous studies with numerous other studies in music, drama, painting, teaching and porcelain design.

Rejuvenating Pruning
This white porcelain sculpture was fired at 1280°C in an oxidation atmosphere. Its shape was inspired by leftover tree trimmings. Different parts were assembled together to achieve this expressive composition.

Flying Petals
Part of the Flying Petals series, this porcelain sculpture was inspired by flower petals flying, when at the end of spring they start to be blown away by the wind. The piece was hand-shaped and fired at 1280°C in an oxidation atmosphere.

Spherical Atlas
In between flowers and fruits, these porcelain vessels were conceived to express a state of confusion and transformation Part of the “Spherical Atlas” series, they were hand-shaped and fired at 1280°C in an oxidation atmosphere.
