These two blue handmade ceramic objects were inspired by the ancient architecture of Ihor Kovalevych’s native city. The hollow towering sculptures are decorated with a marine blue glaze. Ihor tries to create his ceramic pieces as sculptures or architectural objects, with material, texture and colour as his building blocks. The two stoneware sculptures were glazed and fired in a gas kiln at 1230°C.

This stoneware sculpture was inspired by the experience of long walks on spring days and explores the idea of nature’s transformation. There is an architectural element to Ihor’s work, where materials, textures and colours are used as building blocks.

The stability of sculpture and the fragility of ceramics interested Ihor in this work. These three forms were hand shaped from stoneware and the final forms decorated with glaze. Ihor likes to take an architectural approach towards his creations, using textures, materials and colours as his building blocks.

This work combines several similar objects to create an overall sense of playfulness. The walls of the stoneware sculptures have been textured with regular lines. The sculptures are made from various combined elements which have purposefully been left evident. Ihor likes to approach his works from an architectural standpoint.
