In this new body of work, Geir explores the facets and interaction between an object and its surrounding space, the reflected environment. The hand-blown sculptures were crafted with mirrored glass, generating a sharp contrast in texture between the smooth, coloured top and the rough sides.

Spellbound by the magic of glass

Geir Nustad was born in Tromsø, in the north of Norway, in 1984. In 2006 he moved to Sweden, where he trained to become a glassblower at the Kosta Glascenter, one of Europe’s most renowned glass schools. He then moved to the Netherlands for further study at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Geir has also worked alongside different skilled masters to improve his skills. Currently living and working in Amsterdam, his practice as an artist ranges from drawings and paintings to objects, sculptures and installations that consist mainly of glass, either as a sculptural medium or related to design/applied-arts.

Wave – celadon egg
This egg-shaped sculpture was hand-blown and cold-cut to produce the final surface. It is part of a series in which Geir aims to push the artistic and technical limits of glass. Much of his inspiration comes from the raw nature and darkness of the northern part of his native Norway, its contrasts and extremes.

At first glance, it’s easy to believe that this giant glass egg is made of finely turned wood. It is part of Geir’s Wave series, in which he aims to push the artistic and technical limits of glass. Much of his inspiration comes from the raw nature and darkness of the northern part of his native Norway, its contrasts and extremes.

Wave – Latte
The powder-like surface of this beige glass egg resembles the foam on a caffè latte. The piece is supported by a round base. It is part of Geir’s Wave series, in which he explores and pushes the technical and aesthetic limits of glass. He draws much of his inspiration for the forms and colours from the raw nature and darkness of the landscapes of the northern part of his native Norway.
