Sicily’s dynamic duo

Alberto and Francesca Tasca d'Almerita live with their family in Palermo, Sicily. Together, they run the Regaleali Estate and the Capofaro Estate of Tasca d'Almerita, the family winery. Francesca focuses on the hospitality side, taking care of every detail from the choice of tablecloths to the search for artisanal and sustainable pieces to enhance the rooms, while Alberto is involved in the family’s heritage wine growing business. Francesca has previously been involved in organising high profile events in Palermo, such as the Natura in Festa event in the park of Villa Tasa, the social sustainability project Cogito-un aperitivo per la mente, and a literary and wine festival Le Cattive. She has extensive experience in tailor made travel in Italy, giving her clients access to exclusive noble palaces, unexplored places, and journeys into Italian culture and history.

What does craftsmanship signify for you?

Craftsmanship for me is the art of creating by hand an authentic piece of work, which is unique in the world, both for those who own it as well as for those who have created it.

Do you work with craftspeople and how?

The value of the land where the Tasca d'Almerita estates are located, which I take care of, lies in the discovery and story of the tangible and intangible heritage that is found within them. Precisely for this reason, I always go in search of young and talented Sicilian and Italian artisans whose creations - as long as they are authentic, artisanal and above all sustainable - I love to showcase in our premises.

Do you have any stories about the artisans you selected for the guide?

When we decided to open a shop in Capofaro Locanda & Malvasia, on the island of Salina, we started looking for master craftspeople, talents of Made in Italy manufacturing. I was lucky enough to meet many interesting, curious, creative people, enthused by a deep desire for knowledge and experimentation. I particularly remember meeting with Stefania Boemi, a Sicilian artisan, who reinterprets the ancient Moor's heads in a contemporary way. I saw in Stefania's hands the ability to create a perfect union between past and future.

How would you define excellence?

Excellence is a quality that someone or something possesses that is unique, commendable, and unrepeatable. My family passed on to me a love for beauty, but also for things executed well, regardless of what you do. Every gesture of daily life should be oriented towards excellence. Therefore, for me excellence is a lifestyle, the result of effort, study, work, passion and dedication.
