Fortuny

Textile making

A magnificent story of arts and crafts, taste and innovationFortuny is a luxury textile manufacturer. It was established by Mariano Fortuny in Venice in 1908. Mariano was the son of the celebrated 19th-century Catalan painter Mariano Fortuny y Marsal, he was born into a cosmopolitan family of artists and collectors of sophisticated taste and culture, he grew up in a very stimulating context. The talented fashion designer, an accomplished inventor and innovator, together with his muse and wife Henriette Negrin, conceived every part of the production, creating new dyes, stencils and patented machinery. What began in a small studio in their home, Palazzo Pesaro degli Orfei, grew into a global brand headquartered on the island of Giudecca. Today, artisans still continue to produce Fortuny’s designs on the same machinery, in the same factory opened by him in 1922. Fortuny created a legacy of design that remains as strong today as it was over a century ago when it first began.
