These two silver gilt boxes represent coral reefs and the health of our oceans. ‘Then’ represents how they used to be – in all their glory – whilst the corroded silver box ‘Now’, references the destruction that we humans have inflicted on marine life. They evoke the way that corals and barnacles encrust the surface of rocks and shells, a long – and random –process of build-up, that looks completely meant.
