The Cretan

The decorative stacking puzzle figure of the Cretan is part of a series that combines historical information, folk elements and Greek tradition with interactivity and modern design. The different coloured pieces – brown, light brown and natural wood – highlight its archetypal characteristics. The Cretan comprises seven different pieces, all handmade from beech wood and dyed with eco-friendly water-based paints.

Key features of the Cretan man’s figure are the big thick black moustache and the black “sariki” on the head. The Cretan “sariki” with its numerous fringes in the shape of tears is said to symbolise the many years of the Ottoman domination of the island of Crete.
