Ruth Gurvich was born and grew up in Córdoba, Argentina. She studied architecture for two years before deciding to study painting at the fine arts school in Córdoba and then at the National School of Fine Arts in Paris. Her work quickly gravitated to the study of iconic objects from all periods. Her research into perspective and forms of representation led her to develop her paintings in a three-dimensional format. Although initially she flattened her three-dimensional creations, she soon started to leave them in their three-dimensional format. In 2002 she was invited to include her paper creations in an exhibition on ceramics in Limoges. This led to several residencies and to her works being transposed to porcelain from the paper models. She has since worked alongside a number of manufacturers, using various materials such as porcelain with Nymphenburg and silver with Richard Orfèvre in Paris.
