It all started in 1906 with a vision to create a tool that would revolutionise the art of handwriting. Inspired by the latest mechanical innovations coming out of America, a group of Hamburg-based engineers, entrepreneurs and merchants came together to bring this vision to life. Together, they produced a writing instrument with non-leaking technology and a piston convertor that would change the course of writing history forever, thus laying the foundations for Montblanc. Originally trading as “Simplo Filler Pen Co”, the newly founded Maison created a high quality writing instrument, a safety filler named "Rouge et Noir", in 1909. A few years later, the name Montblanc was adopted for the company, inspired by the highest mountain in Europe and symbolising their vision of excellence.
