Iosifina Kosma became enchanted by clay at high school, when, during an art class, the ceramicist Meredith Green gave an introductory course on ceramics. These days Iosifina likes alternating between various techniques, deriving a unique pleasure from each. However, her favourite technique is using her hands to create free, asymmetrical, sculptural forms. She constructs her pieces using similar methods to those employed by traditional ceramicists to make large vases without a potter’s wheel or a mould, building each piece by “gradually dressing the gap”.
