Pattern of Crafts

This Churrigueresco (Spanish baroque) style tile is embroidered with gold thread on a cardboard base. The cornucopia-shaped cartouche in the centre is embroidered in gold with a backstitch and framed by woven leaves and sequined ornaments.

Exhibition curator Sebastian Herkner took the geometric pattern of the terrace of the Basilica of San Giorgio, on San Giorgio Maggiore island, and invited selected master artisans to interpret this lace-like octagonal pattern in a graphic artwork.
